#7 The 5am Club: 6 Tips for Setting the Tone for Your Day
Updated: Aug 5, 2021
I wake up at 5am. I join thousands of people worldwide for the 5am Club who start their day mindfully. I have found that my morning ritual sets the tone for the entire day.
It stops your creative juices from flowing because you immediately react to your environment and atmosphere instead of creating your own. In addition, consuming information at the start of your day can make you feel overwhelmed, and you lose clarity on your day.
1. GET OUT of BED
When the alarm sounds, the first thing you should do is to get up right away. Don’t linger, and don’t hit that snooze button! You may feel groggy, ignore that, and get out of bed! It won’t be long until you feel a lot better.
2. EXERCISE
You will feel better if you exercise upon rising. You don’t have to go to the gym or of course, if you want to, don’t let me stop you! When I swing my legs out of bed, I have a big stretch. It gets my blood flowing and oxygen to my brain. I then take my dogs for a walk. I love the cool, fresh air, which helps to wake me up. Next, I work out in my mini gym in my spare room, spending 30 minutes’ exercising. Do your research and find what you enjoy, and go for it! I use YouTube for free over 50s exercise classes as well.
3. CONTEMPLATE AND FOCUS
A time of silence with your eyes closed can really help you focus for the day. Just take 10 minutes to focus on the moment, just be still and breathe. Remember, you’re preparing for your day ahead! I also take time to pray and read the bible, which sets me up to tackle anything that may arise in my day.
4. USE YOUR PLANNER
I don’t start trying to solve problems at this stage, but I do look in my planner and take my tasks from my monthly planner spread and allocate them to a time slot in my day. I work well with time slots rather than blocking out large chunks of time. For me, I accomplish a lot more with less stress. Planning for only 10 mins at the start of my day helps me prepare mentally, and I am not wondering what to do next.
5. HAVE BREAKFAST, DRINK WATER:
I feel better when I’m hydrated. Try to focus on mindfully preparing and eating your breakfast. Set your food out for the day. It is well worth the time you take with this. You can boldly go where no man has gone before when you know you have worked through your morning routine successfully. It is behind you, and you can get on with your day.
6. MAKE YOUR BED
I like to air my bed a little, so I make it after my breakfast. A tidy house is a tidy mind!
Continue with your routine like brushing your teeth, working on your skincare routine, makeup etc. Try to stay focused and at the moment – enjoy it!
When I get up at 5am I can accomplish all the things I need to without any rush, hustle, and bustle. I have the time to be calm, and mindful as I move through my routine. My routine helps me to stay focused, calm, for the rest of my day.
I hope these few tips have helped you- remember, if you don’t drive your day, your day will drive you - now go out and create a successful day!!!
